Bereavement poems, Irish sympathy phrases for Memorials

This is how I deal with my grief, by designing memorials using bereavement poems. I have created them for my Dad, William J. Sullivan Sr. Mildred Sullivan, my Mother-in-law, Robert Sullivan my Father-in-law, Antoinette Abraham my Grandmother, and for my friend John Killea who gave me my first flower press in 1989 to get me started on this journey. They are helpful for me in the grieving process by allowing me to focus on the memories and the eternal life that awaits.

You may find that by putting a memorial together with pictures, personal notes and sympathy phrases can help honor their life and memories and bring people together for comfort.

Because of the overwhelming response to this category, I have added 14 more Bereavement poems for a total of 22 different blessings to honor those we love. It is really a privilege for me to be able to help in this way. I can also provide you with an image of your item for use in your Online Website Memorials.

As a boy I remember reading the saying on my Dad's Memorial card and getting some comfort from the written words. In an perfect world there would never be a need to comfort because there would be no suffering. Until then... Here are some meaningful Irish Bereavement blessings from my collection. They are a great way to show your sentiments and they are thoughtful reminders. These Irish Bereavement blessings are a combination of traditional Bereavement blessings and Irish designs and graphics. Enough of my words, please find comfort in these bereavement poems.

May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back.May the sun shine warm upon your face.May the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, May the Lord hold you in the palm of His hand.

In Memory of[ Loved one’s name ]

God saw you getting tiredand a cure was not to be.So He put His arms around you and whispered “come to me.” With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest.God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.bereavement poems #374

In Memory of

Do not stand at my grave and weep,

I am not there, I do not sleep.I am a thousand winds that blow;I am the diamond glints on the snow.I am the sunlight that ripened grain;I am the gentle autumns’s rain. When you awaken in the morning’s hush,I am the swift uplifting rush,Of quiet birds in circled flight.I am the soft star that shines at night.Do not stand at my grave and cry.I am not there; I did not die.bereavement poems #386

Do not stand at my grave and weep,

[Loved one’s name]Longing For One More DayWhen we lose someone we love it seems that time stands still. What moves through us is a silence... a quiet sadness... A longing for one more day... one more word... one more touch... We may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget. We will see you again some day, in a heavenly place where there is no parting. A place where there are no words that mean good-bye. bereavement poems #667 Longing For One More Day

Death is Nothing at all[ loved one’s name ]

Death is nothing at all I have only slipped away into the next room I am I and you are you whatever we were to each other that we still are call me by my old familiar name speak to me in the easy way which you always used put no difference in your tone wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together pray smile, think of me, pray for me Let my name be ever the household word that it always was Let it be spoken without effort without the trace of a shadow in it Life means all that it ever meant it is the same as it ever was there is unbroken continuity why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am waiting for you somewhere very near just around the corner All is well #668 bereavement poems

If Tears Could Build A Stairway [ loved one’s name ] If tears could build a stairway and memories were a lane We would walk right up to heaven And bring you back again. No farewell words were spoken No time to say goodbye You were gone before we knew it And only God knows why Our hearts still ache in sadness and secret tears still flow What it meant to lose you No one will ever know But now we know you want us To mourn for you no more To remember all the happy times Life still has much in store Since you'll never be forgotten We pledge to you today A cherished place within our heart Is where you'll always stay bereavement poems #669 If Tears Could Build A Stairway

[ loved one ] God looked around His garden And found an empty place. He then looked down upon the earth And saw your tired face. He put his arms around you And lifted you to rest. God’s garden must be beautiful He always takes the best. He saw the road was getting rough And the hills were hard to climb, So He closed your weary eyelids And whispered "Peace be thine". It broke our hearts to lose you But you didn’t go alone, For part of us went with you The day God called you home. bereavement poems #670 God looked around His garden

[ Mother’s name ] You can only have one mother Patient kind and true; No other friend in all the world, Will be the same to you. When other friends forsake you, To mother you will return, For all her loving kindness, She asks nothing in return. As we look upon her picture, Sweet memories we recall, Of a face so full of sunshine, And a smile for one and all. Sweet Jesus, take this message, To our dear mother up above; Tell her how we miss her, And give her all our love. bereavement poems #671 bereavement poems You can only have one mother

[loved one’s name] MISS ME - BUT LET ME GO When I come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me I want no rites in a gloom-filled room. Why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little--but not too long And not with your head bowed low. Remember the love that we once shared Miss me--but let me go. For this is a journey that we all must take And each must go alone. It's all a part of the Master's plan A step on the road to home. When you are lonely and sick of heart Go to the friends we know And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds. [ name ] [1901-2006] BEYOND THE SUNSET Should you go first and I remain to walk the road alone, I'll live in memories garden dear, with happy days we've known. In spring I'll wait for roses red, when faded, the lilacs blue. In early fall when brown leaves fall, I'll catch a glimpse of you. Should you go first and I remain, for battle to be fought. Each thing you've touched along the way will be a hallowed spot. I'll hear your voice, I'll see your smile, though blindly I may grope, The memory of your helping hand will buoy me on with hope. Should you go first and I remain, one thing I'll have you do: Walk slowly down that long long path, for soon I'll follow you. I want to know each step you take, so I may take the same. For someday down that lonely road you'll hear me call your name. #690 bereavement poems BEYOND THE SUNSET BEYOND THE SUNSET

loved one’s name [1901-2006] I STOOD BY YOUR BED I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep. I could see that you were crying, you found it hard to sleep. I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear, "It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here." I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea, you were thinking of the many times your hands reached down to me. I was with you at the shops today, your arms were getting sore. I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more. I was with you at my grave today, you tend it with such care. I want to reassure you, that I'm not lying there. I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key. I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said "it's me." You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair. I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there. It's possible for me to be so near you every day. To say to you with certainty, "I never went away." You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew ... in the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you. The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning and say "goodnight, God bless, I'll see you in the morning." And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide, I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side. I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see. Be patient, live your journey out ... then come home to be with me. #692 bereavement poems I STOOD BY YOUR BED I stood by your bed

loved one’s name [1901-2006] I'M STILL HERE Friend, please don't mourn for me I'm still here, though you don't see. I'm right by your side each night and day and within your heart I long to stay. My body is gone but I'm always near. I'm everything you feel, see or hear. My spirit is free, but I'll never depart as long as you keep me alive in your heart. I'll never wander out of your sight- I'm the brightest star on a summer night. I'll never be beyond your reach- I'm the warm moist sand when you're at the beach. I'm the colorful leaves when fall comes around and the pure white snow that blankets the ground. I'm the beautiful flowers of which you're so fond, The clear cool water in a quiet pond. I'm the first bright blossom you'll see in the spring, The first warm raindrop that April will bring. I'm the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine, and you'll see that the face in the moon is mine. When you start thinking there's no one to love you, you can talk to me through the Lord above you. I'll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees, and you'll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze. I'm the hot salty tears that flow when you weep and the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep. I'm the smile you see on a baby's face. Just look for me, friend, I'm everyplace! #695 bereavement poems

[NAME] 1901 - 2006 Gone From My Sight

I am standing upon the seashore.A ship at my side spreads her whitesails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strengthI stand and watch her until at lengthshe hangs like a speck of white cloudjust where the sea and sky cometo mingle with each other

Then someone at my side says;"There, she is gone!"

"Gone where?"Gone from my sight. That is all.She is just as large in mast and hulland spar as she was when she left my sideand she is just as able to bear herload of living freight to her destined port. Her diminished size is in me, not in her.And just at the moment when someoneat my side says, "There, she is gone!"There are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the gladshout,"Here she comes!"

And that is dying.#702 bereavement poems

Listen, I tell you a mystery:

We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed-- in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet.

For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: "Death has been swallowed up in victory."
